Although I was born in Vancouver, I moved to Victoria when I was six years old and consider
myself a native Victorian. The natural beauty of Vancouver Island continues to be my muse. With
no formal training but a desire to paint, in the late 1960's I bought some oil paints and started painting and have continued
ever since. I was inspired by the realist painters, especially, Andrew Wyeth, Alex Collvile and Salvador Dali.
My early paintings bear the signature Pat Thompson. Later, after my children were grown, I changed back to my maiden
name, Trish Smith. Most of my early paintings were done in oil. When I reached the age of retirement
and discovered I had more time to paint, I tried acrylics, liked them, and since 2000, that is my medium of choice.
